RAILROADS IN THE AREA:
CSX "S-Line":
- Dade City - Bushnell - Wildwood:
This is a long section of the CSX "S-Line" that can actually be followed for several miles on HWY 301, though it is not visible at some points. The track is busy at all times of day and is perfect for following a train for a long distance. From Dade City, Stay on 301 North, The track will occasionally come up to the road and then vear away. In the Rerdell / St. Catherine area the tracks parallel directly next to 301 all the way to Bushnell. If you keep going straight through town, the road (though no longer 301) still parallels the tracks until it reaches I-75. Tou can turn right to Sumterville to find 301 again and follow it north through Coleman and eventually to Wildood, but the route is usually too slow due to yhr turns and small towns. Instead if you get on the interstate (I-75) and head north (just by continuing straight on the road that parallels the tracks it leads you onto the northbound onramp for the interstate). Go to the HWY 44 exit and turn toward Wildwood, you will find 301 again. Turn left (north) on 301 and this will bring you to the Wildwood rail yard, which will be on the left. There is often all types of switching and incoming / outgoing trains here. There is a spur track heading east from the rail yard that was once part of the old Pinsly Florida Midland Railroad that once served Leesburg, that has since been abandoned, What is currently left of the line is now used by CSX as a storage tack, and they make use out of the "wye" track where it connects to the Wildwood yard for turning around whatever they may need to. This line heads north into Marion County and southward ctting the southeast corner of Hernando County and south through Pasco County into Dade City and Vitis Jct.
