RAILROADS IN THE AREA:

CSX "S-Line":

- Bushnell - Dade City - Vitis Jct.:

This part of the CSX "S-Line" This section goes north Through Dade City into Sumter county (as well as a small corner of Hernando county. Going south the line splits at Vitis Jct., the "S-Line" continues southeast to Polk county (Lakeland). Just south Trilby the railraod comes up to HWY 301 and then moves away again, if you continue south on 301 you will enter Dade City. In Dade City, you will want to turn left on Lakeland Rd (533 - which is a bybass for HWY 98 I beleive.) you will see the tracks parallel the road on the left. Shortly after passing the old Dade City Amtrak Station you will need to turn left again on Rt 35A (Old Lakeland Hwy) to continue following the tracks. They will eventually pass under HWY 98 and lead to Vitis Jct. This line splits to the left toward lakeland, another portion of the line (Vitis Jct - Zephyrhills - Plant City) splits right and continues along this road for a short distance. To head into Lakeland you need to get onto HWY 98 and head south, which is a long drive of nothing. The quickest way is to continue pass Vitis Jct to Rt 54 and turn left, which will take you directly into HWY 98, turn left on HWY 98.

Standard CSX Railroad:

- Brooksville - Lutz - Tampa:

This line comes from the north in Hernando county and proceeds south through Hillsborough county. This track is not heavily used; however the best method of following a train here either going north or south in or out of the county is to use HWY 41, which parallels the railroad, just not always directly next to it.

- Vitis Jct - Zephyrhills - Plant City:

At Vitis Junction on the CSX "S-Line" this line branches off to the southwest, briefly brushing Zephyrhills and then heading outh along Rt 39 in Hillsborough county. To follow from Vitis Jct south on this line, you continue on the road at Vitis Jct going straight (the road changes names it is Rt 535, Old Lakeland Highway, and Chancey Rd at one point or another, regardless keep going straight). You will cross the railroad twice after several miles of curving aroung and such. Shortly after the second crossing is a Traffic sighnal, which is Rt 39, turn Left and follow into Hillsborough county toward Plant City. Make sure you are turning on Rt 39 (Paul S Buchman Hwy), turning too early can take you back to HWY 98 it is probably about 6-7 miles from Vitis Jct to the turnoff for Rt 39.
